Mark your calendars! On Sunday 22nd June, head just eight miles down the road to Welshpool for its annual carnival – a local highlight, celebrating colour, creativity and community.
Last year, the event was hailed by Cllr Phil Pritchard as ‘the best one [he’s] seen for over 30 years’. Held at Maes-y-Dre recreational ground from 12pm – 5pm, this year’s carnival promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Kick off the event by catching the carnival parade – consisting of local businesses and organisations – which winds its way through Welshpool town centre from midday. It’s a vibrant spectacle of floats, costumes, community groups, and performers bringing energy and colour to the streets.
Expect a full afternoon of family-friendly entertainment from games and interactive activities to balloon modelling and face painting. There’s something for everyone – whether you just want to soak up the atmosphere or dive head-first into the fun.
Then, from 1pm – 5pm enjoy a rolling line-up of local bands and artists, each performing 20-minute sets, showcasing the incredible talent in the region. It’s the perfect soundtrack to a sunny summer afternoon.
Wander the grounds and sample delicious bites from a range of food stalls. Whether you’re in the mood for a sweet treat or a savoury snack, there’s plenty to tempt your tastebuds.
Organised by Welshpool Town Council, the carnival is a true celebration of the town’s spirit and creativity – and with free entry, it’s the perfect way to enjoy a laid-back Sunday.
