Llanfair Caereinion
The small town of Llanfair Caereinion, the heart of Montgomeryshire's Banwy Valley, is only a short drive away. Built upon the site of an old Roman fort, here you can stock up on all the essentials from the local SPAR, convenience store and Pandy Butchers.
You can also find a local bus service that will take you into Welshpool. A bus to Oswestry also runs twice a week.
There is planty of local places to eat and drink such as The Red Lion, The Black Lion and The Goat Hotel.
Welshpool
The market town of Welshpool lies about 7 miles away from Oakwood Valley. Here you'll find a variety of supermarkets, pubs, restaurants, shops and leisure facilities. Highlights include:

The coast is as near as 38 miles away with the seaside towns of Borth, Aberdovey, Tywyn, Fairbourne, Barmouth, and Porthmadog all within an hours drive.

Walking & Nature Reserves
Oakwood Valley is set in 74 acres of beautiful welsh countryside, providing you and your canine friends with plenty of unspoilt land to wander. It is the perfect base to explore the surrounding nature reserves (such as Llyn Coed y Dinas & Dolforwyn Woods) and the local walking trails.
Glyndŵr's Way - One of the most popular scenic paths in Mid-Wales. The route boasts some of the finest landscapes in Wales including fantastic views of Lake Vyrnwy, Clywedog Reservoir and the Cambrian Mountains.
Severn Way - You can also pick up the the Severn Way at Welshpool. This route is along the entire Severn Valley from the source to the sea.
One of the walking highlights in the area is the 4 and 1/2 mile circular route along the Montgomery Canal. Starting in Welshpool, climbing through a medieval deer park to Powis Castle.
Fishing
Welshpool offers plenty of fishing opportunities. The Rivers Banwy, Vyrnwy and Camlad provide some excellent water to sharpen your fishing skills. The main species found are trout and grayling, with some stretches harbouring the likes of pike and carp.
If lake fishing is more to your fancy why not visit Moel Y Garth Pools in Guilsfield? Boasting 2 pools with Roach, Perch, Carp, Tench, Rudd and Bream. This venue is also suitable for those who require disabled access.
Another popular location is Vyrnwy Reservoir- the world's second oldest man-made trout fishery, offering fishing for wild brown, stocked brown and rainbow trout.
